Here are the events happening:
• Doug Powell, national president of AIGA — which bills itself as the professional association for design — will give a presentation about “Design for Good,” an initiative to foster design-driven social change. Powell will deliver his talk at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City. Admission is $10 for the public; or $5 for $5 for AIGA, AIA, SEGD and IDSA members (and if you know what those acronyms are, you’re probably a member).
• A screening of the documentary “The Visual Language of Herbert Matter,” profiling the mid-20th-century modern design master, takes place at 7 p.m. at the City Library auditorium. 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. A panel discussion follows. Admission is free.
• The Open Studio Crawl starts, with tours of eight architectural and design firms on the city’s east side, from 4 to 6 p.m. (Wednesday’s Crawl will hit the central district, while Thursday’s will journey to the west side.)
• Daniel Dejan, creative manager for the fine-paper company Sappi North America, will present two workshop seminars, at 9:15 a.m. and 1 p.m ., at the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City. Admission is free.
• The Salt Lake Art Center’s current exhibit, of the works of painter Kim Schoenstadt, will be open for Design Week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
