SALT LAKE CITY — The downtown O.C. Tanner location has been named the "coolest" jewelry store in North America by New York-based Instore Magazine, a trade industry publication.
The O.C. Tanner store came out on top of a competition that included 110 stores. They were judged by their appearance, biography and marketing efforts.
Magazine representatives said their judges were particularly impressed with the attractiveness of the outside of the O.C. Tanner store at 15 S. State, and they also favored the custom Sharon Marston light sculpture, sweeping central spiral staircase and modern decor.
"The exterior is very stately and magnificent, the restoration a true testament to this historical building," said Candy Udell, one of the judges. "Additionally, the O.C. Tanner story of strong family and community ties is integral to their concept for this building and a key to their success."
Employees at O.C. Tanner said they were delighted with the recognition, which comes with a trophy and an eight-page cover story about the store in the magazine's August issue.
"While we've considered O.C. Tanner to be the most breathtaking jewelry store in America since we opened its doors in September, it's truly rewarding to be honored with this distinction by Instore and notable members of the jewelry industry," said Curtis Bennett, vice president of retail operations for O.C. Tanner.
"This was our founder's dream and, if Obert Tanner were alive today, we know he would be equally pleased," Bennett said.
