Public can weigh in on Broadway-class theater
By Derek P. Jensen
Salt Lake City has scheduled an open house and an online "discussion" to gather feedback on Mayor Ralph Becker’s proposed $110 million Utah Performing Arts Center on Main Street.
City Council and mayoral staffers will answer questions about the Broadway-class theater during a Dec. 5 open house at City Hall, 451 S. State St., from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 326.
Available now, the city’s online forum "Open City Hall" is soliciting input on the mega-playhouse. Participants in the digital conversation will see direct email links to submit questions as well as links to theater studies and video links to council discussions about the theater. The online forum is at www.slcgov.com/opencityhall.
On Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., the council is expected to vote on whether to approve $18 million in design funding for the theater, which is considered a precursor to the project’s ultimate approval.
The new vision for Salt Lake City encompasses ideas large and small, bold and restrained - for shaping downtown's future.
