Salt Lake City Recognized as a Top-Ranked Digital City

Utah’s Capital City has once again been named as having one of the nation’s top-ranked digital city governments. The Digital Cities Survey, conducted by e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government and DigitalCommunities Program, focuses on results achieved by cities, via the use of technology, in operating efficiencies and realizing strategic objectives  despite current fiscal constraints.

“Cities that are investing in technology are capturing cost savings that are critical to continuity of operations and their ability to meet higher demand for services,” said Todd Sander, director of Digital Communities. “The highest-ranking cities in the survey showed great strides in consolidating, enabling shared services, government transparency and communications interoperability. We applaud these innovators as they work in the spirit of  collaboration to provide extraordinary value to constituents despite budget setbacks.”

Salt Lake City’s Chief Information Officer Bill Haight said technology has made it possible for the City to be more transparent and better serve the public.

“The City has for many years been a leader in using technology to improve the way we deliver services and engage the public,” said Haight.  “As a result, we as a government are more responsive to our constituents, more transparent and have a higher level of engagement with citizens, visitors and businesses in and around our Capital City.”

The Center for Digital Government'sDigital Cities Survey is conducted annually. All United States cities, towns, villages and consolidated city and county governments with populations of 30,000 or greater are invited to participate in this survey.

Salt Lake City ranked second place in the 125,000 – 249,999 population classification. The winners of the Digital Cities Survey will be honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, November 11, at the National League of Cities annual conference in Phoenix, Ariz.
